Yemen fires missile toward Abu Dhabi nuclear reactor

TEHRAN, Dec. 03 (MNA) – Yemen has fired a cruise missile towards a nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Yemen's television service reported on its website on Sunday.

Yemen had said Abu Dhabi, a member of the Saudi-led coalition fighting against them since 2015, was a target for their missiles, Reuters reported.

“The missile force announces the launching of a winged cruise missile ... towards the al-Barakah nuclear reactor in Abu Dhabi,” the website said. It gave no further details.

The Barakah project, which is being built by Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), is expected to be completed and become operational in 2018, the UAE energy minister has said.

Colonel Aziz Rashid, a spokesman for the Yemeni army, has told Lebanon's Al Mayadeen TV channel that the missile attack was a political and military response to the UAE's role in the destruction of Yemen. He insisted that the missile had hit the intended target.

The United Arab Emirates on Sunday denied Yemen's missile fire toward the country's under-construction nuclear plant.
